AmBank bags National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence Award

AmBank Group has shown leadership in the area of occupational safety and health (OSH) when it bagged an award at a recent national level event that lauded safe and healthy work environments.

It won the “2018 National OSH Excellence Award” in the financial institution category at the National Occupational Safety and Health (NOSH) Excellence Awards 2018.

“We are pleased to receive this award as it signifies our commitment in being a responsible and caring employer, as we inculcate the OSH culture and promote a safe and healthy work environment within our premises,” said AmBank group CEO Datuk Sulaiman Mohd Tahir in a statement.

The NOSH Excellence Awards recognises organisations from various sectors that have shown except ional performance and achievements in ensuring OSH excellence at the workplace.

It also awards individuals who have demonstrated excellent performance, commitment and contribution.

The award was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who had also launched the NOSH policy at the same event in Sepang last month.

The policy is aimed at protecting workers’ rights to a safe, healthy and conducive work environment.

Group OSH chairman Eqhwan Mokhzanee Mohammad — who is also AmBank Islamic Bhd CEO — received the award on behalf of the bank.

Some of the group’s key officials present at the event were its group branding and marketing senior VP Heida Hew, group administration head Mohammad Ismi Ismail, group corporate communications and marketing executive VP Syed Anuar Syed Ali and the bank’s payment and banking support head Firdausi Ab Samad.

One of the key departments when it comes to OSH is the Department of Occupational Safety and Health under the Ministry of Human Resources.

The department is responsible for ensuring the safety, health and welfare of people at work, besides protecting other people from the safety and health hazards arising from the activities sectors which include manufacturing, mining and quarrying, hotels and restaurants, as well as transport.

As a government agency, the department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of legislations related to OSH of the country, with a vision of becoming an organisation which leads the nation in creating a safe and healthy work culture that contributes towards enhancing the quality of working life, according to information at its website.
