Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has recorded more than 13,000 bookings for its Aruz SUV, since early January of this year.

Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd MD Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said the company sold nearly 37,400 vehicles by February, up 7.3% year-on-year (YoY) from 34,800 units delivered in the previous corresponding period, attributed to strong demand for nearly all of its models.

The Aruz contributed to 3,600 units sold, while the carmaker delivered 15,000 Myvis, 10,100 Axias, 5,900 Bezzas and 2,700 Alzas.

Production jumped 6.2% to 36,500 vehicles rolled out, compared to 34,375 units made in the same period last year.

“The heightened sales performance is a result of our efforts to further improve our delivery time,” Zahari said in a statement yesterday.

Zahari said Perodua has adjusted production to reduce waiting time for the seven-seater Aruz.

He added that Perodua is currently holding a nationwide roadshow called “Aruz On Tour”, which began in Selangor on Feb 13, and has travelled to Johor Baru, Kota Baru and to a final stop in Kuching from March 8 till March 10 at The Spring Shopping Mall.

The Malaysian Automotive Association recently noted that car sales volume rose 9% YoY to 48,450 units in January as a result of the clearance of the 2018 stocks and Chinese New Year promotions.
