The National Defence White Paper will be tabled in Parliament in July, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin (picture) said.
The white paper will contain clear information on the roles of every agency, organisation and the public in preserving national peace.
“With this paper, all parties including the MAF, police, and other related agencies will have clear guidelines of their duties and roles,” he said in a press conference held after a working visit to the Eastern Field Command at the Muara Tuang Camp in Kuching yesterday.
Also present was commander of the Eastern Field Command, Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain.
In a separate development, Zulkifli said the MAF was planning to set up a joint defence team comprising the Army, Air Force and Navy to coordinate strategies to preserve national peace.
“The joint team will be stationed in all regions — north, south, east coast, Sabah and Sarawak. However, it is still being discussed because we are looking at the current economic situation,” he said.
Earlier, Zulkifli presented the National Sovereignty Medals to 120 members of the MAF who served in the Lahad Datu incursion incident in 2013 and the Pingat Jasa Malaysia to 50 MAF veterans from Sarawak. — Bernama
