The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) 2019 will host 2,000 business meetings to match local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with world buyers and expand trade volume.
Mihas 2019, which is coordinated by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade), is scheduled to conduct International Sourcing Programme (INSP) to connect more than 400 Malaysian companies with 150 high-quality importers from over 40 countries around the world.
“The INSP is a very effective platform for local companies to pitch their brands to the global buyers. They get to have direct and personalised communication with their potential buyers and this increases their chance to secure export deals,” Matrade deputy CEO Datuk Wan Latiff Wan Musa said in a statement yesterday.
The business matching programme is set on April 2, 2019, at Menara Matrade in Kuala Lumpur (KL), a day before Mihas exhibition starts.
The sectors involved include Islamic finance, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and beverages, Muslim- friendly tourism, digital, e-commerce and logistics.
Wan Latiff said the programme is also highly effective as it matched export-ready Malaysian companies with credible foreign buyers who have specified their sourcing interest early and vetted by Matrade.
Mihas 2019 will take place from April 3-6, 2019, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in KL.
The 16th installment of the world’s largest halal trade fair will gather exhibitors and trade visitors from over 70 countries around the world including the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, China, Belgium, France, Turkey, India, Palestine, Iran, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
Mihas 2019 will hold several seminars and conferences such as Matrade Trade Talk, Halal Trade Finance Conference and Halal Innovation Forum.
Meanwhile, the INSP will be complemented by a specialised hosted buyer programme and an online meeting scheduler called the Mihas Connect.
Since 2005, the INSP in conjunction with Mihas has been helping more than 7,000 local SMEs and generated over RM21 billion in cumulative trade for the companies.
The last edition of Mihas registered stronger sales of RM1.52 billion compared to RM1.01 billion achieved in 2017 on its successful business matching programme.
Sales from the exhibition recorded a 29% year-on-year gain to RM914.6 million, while the INSP had generated RM602.5 million, a 99.5% increase from the previous year’s figure.
