Sharp rolls out 1st AQUOS 8K TV in South-East Asia

Sharp Corp has unveiled its first AQUOS 8K television (TV) line-up AX1 series in Malaysia, badged as the first 8K TV commercially available in the South-East Asia market.

The series carries real 8K resolution panel (7,680 x 4,320) which, it claimed, is the highest resolution to be seen in the whole TV category.

In a statement, Sharp Electronics Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SEM) said the full AQUOS 8K TV line-up comes with the highest processing engine as the first step to shape an 8K world.

The 8K range, available in three large-screen sizes of 60, 70 and 80 inches, features technologies like real 8K resolution panel made in Japan, real 8K colour and real 8K contrast.

SEM MD Robert Wu said Sharp began its 8K development in 2009 and that Malaysia is the first South-East Asian nation to see its arrival.

The real 8K resolution panel has 33 million pixels, 16 times more than the resolution of full high definition (HD), four times more than the 4K Ultra HD, according to the statement.

The display reproduces images at a higher resolution than the human eye can capture, allowing viewers to zoom in to details within an image to an extent not previously possible.

The Sharp AQUOS 8K TV is also powered by Android TV operating with the latest Android TV version 8.0.

The AQUOS 8K range is now available in the local market with a suggested retail price ranging between RM26,000 and RM74,000.

Established in 1985 and formerly known as Sharp Malaysia Sales and Service Co (M) Sdn Bhd, SEM is the marketing arm of the Sharp Group in Malaysia and is responsible for the sales, marketing and promotion of all Sharp products in the country.
