International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking (picture) wants the country to take advantage of the US-China trade war to attract investors to set up base in Malaysia.
According to him, due to the trade war between Washington and Beijing, many companies have shifted their operations and seeking Malaysia as their new investment destination.
“At the same time, there are industries that left Malaysia for other countries like China, but came back to the country (Malaysia) and this is a good sign.
“When they come, we have to ensure they are taken care of and we must make it easy for them, be it new or returning investors,” he told reporters in Seremban yesterday after attending a meeting with the state government.
Also present at the meeting was Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
Darell said the ministry has received a lot of enquiries from investors who want to return to Malaysia, but declined to divulge further details.
“The world is about competing with each other and the competition is about what we bring in and how we bring in, but we must also choose what type of industry we want to bring in (to Malaysia),” the minister said.
He said the Ministry of International Trade and Industry will help Negri Sembilan to promote Malaysia Vision Valley 2.0 as part of its drive to attract potential foreign investors.
On Negri Sembilan’s trade performance, the authorities approved 27 manufacturing project from January to September last year with RM1.87 billion in investment capital value, Darell said. — Bernama
