SC appoints former CIMB banker Ong Liang Heng as ED

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has appointed former banker Ong Liang Heng (picture) as its new ED in the chairman’s office, effective Jan 4.

Ong will be reporting directly to new SC chairman Datuk Syed Zaid Albar, who was appointed in
November.

Trained as an accountant, Ong will be responsible for special projects and initiatives conducted by the SC, the regulator said in a statement yesterday.

“Ong will also be actively involved in the engagement and coordination with stakeholders to develop new proposals or policies for the advancement of the Malaysian capital market,” the SC said.

According to the SC, Ong served as a senior MD at CIMB Bank Bhd, having received a Bachelor of Economics and Social Science from the University of Manchester in the UK.
