Alibaba Group Holding Ltd’s global research programme Alibaba DAMO (Discovery, Adventure, Momentum and Outlook) Academy has published its “Top 10 Technology Trends in 2019” predictions — which are expected to accelerate the pace of technology revolution.

In a statement yesterday, it said more resources will be allocated to technologies powering intelligent cities and their applications, while a city simulation model reflecting real time impulses and movements of a physical city can be built to facilitate the optimisation of city governance.

The global research programme also mentioned the rise of specialised artificial intelligence chips, super large graph neural networks which will equip machines with common sense, the restructuring of computing architecture and 5G wireless technology networks that will enable new applications.

“The 5G will see a significant increase of wireless bandwidth, enhancing the peak speed of 4G network by nearly 100 times,” it said.

Its predictions also include digital identity which will become a second identity card, more prudent developments in autonomous vehicles, deployment of more blockchain applications and data-protection technologies.

“Governments around the world intend to enact or will implement more stringent policies and regulations on data security, while corporates will need to invest more in protecting individual data privacy,” the academy said.

The academy added that traceability technologies across systems and data-asset protection technology will also be more broadly adopted.
