Utusan editor-in-chief resigns

Datuk Dr Ibrahim Yahya (picture), 58, has resigned from his position as the ED and group editor-in-chief of Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd with immediate effect.

In an exchange filing last Friday, the financially troubled media company noted that Ibrahim resigned “due to his other personal commitments”.

On Dec 13, 2018, Ibrahim was redesignated as the ED from his previous position as the independent non-ED, which was made in line with his appointment as the group editor-in-chief.

The newspaper, which is majority owned by Umno, posted a net loss of RM33.9 million for the third quarter (3Q) ended September 2018, its fourth successive losses.

The loss for 3Q increased its nine-month combined losses to RM42.4 million. The newspaper was classified as a Practice Note 17 company on Aug 20 due to its financial difficulties. — TMR
