Malaysia Airports continues to pay it forward through proper toilet etiquette campaign

Over 400 primary school students learn about keeping public toilets clean through Malaysia Airports public service awareness campaign

After the successful launch of its public service awareness (PSA) campaign themed ‘Pay It Forward’ last year on proper toilet etiquettes, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd continues its determined cause this year to champion and educate the community on keeping public toilets clean.

Malaysia Airports has broadened its ‘Pay It Forward’ campaign designed to imparted the knowledge of proper toilet etiquettes to primary school students.

Essentially, the campaign encourages users of the toilets at its airports to perform the act of ‘paying it forward’ by practising cleanliness and good hygiene so that the next user will also have the same pleasant experience.

This year, the ‘Pay It Forward’ campaign broadened its focus on imparting the knowledge of proper toilet etiquettes to primary school students, specifically standard four school students. Over 400 students from 10 schools within the Sepang district were invited to visit KL International Airport (KLIA) to learn more about using public toilets in a more responsible manner.

“As the operator of the main gateways to the country, we decided to champion this initiative since two years ago as it is very important for visitors to have a good first impression of Malaysia. This can be showcased through our facilities that are used in a responsible and mindful manner by our local passengers,” said Malaysia Airports acting group CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin.

“We believe that instilling and inculcating this model behaviour in our younger generation will reap beneficial results in moulding a generation that will grow up to be more civic minded.

“The students were invited to visit KLIA together with their teachers where our employee volunteer team ‘Skuad Ceria’ shared on the importance of good toilet etiquettes and the culture of mindfulness to the group. At the same time, the field trip also included a visit of the airport facilities for the students to meet our employees and see first-hand all the buzz and activities at the terminals. This gave them a chance to expand their horizons as well learn more about possible future job opportunities at the airport,” Azmi added.

Azmi also mentioned that after each airport visit, the students were also encouraged to write about the proper toilet etiquettes that they have learned. The best essays from each school was then awarded a prize.

“Staying true to the spirit and theme of the ‘pay it forward’ movement, the winners then ‘paid it forward’ by reading out their essay during their individual school assemblies. This way, all the students in the 10 schools were also imparted with the knowledge on proper toilet etiquettes, allowing us to spread our message to a bigger audience. At the same time, posters on good toilet etiquettes were also presented to each school, to further reinforce our mission in keeping public toilets clean,” Azmi further added.

Malaysia Airports’ ‘Pay It Forward’ campaign falls under the organisation’s community enrichment pillar in its corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework. Malaysia Airports aims to continue this significant initiative so that more communities embrace this campaign and be mindful when using public toilers in order to upkeep the cleanliness and allow the next user to have a pleasant experience.
