MRT Corp CEO to step down

Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has announced that its CEO Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar (picture) will step down from Dec 31, 2018.

MRT Corp director of strategic communications and stakeholder relations Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah has been appointed by the board to assume the position until a new CEO is appointed by the government.

According to a statement released yesterday, MRT Corp noted that Shahril intends to pursue other career options and will not extend his contract after taking over the helm of the ownership and developer of the Klang Valley MRT project on Jan 5, 2015.

“I will cherish every moment I had with MRT Corp, especially highlights such as the opening of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, Malaysia’s first MRT line, and commencement of the MRT Sungai Buloh- Serdang-Putrajaya Line,” he said.

MRT Corp was founded in September 2011. The first MRT line was constructed at a cost of RM21 billion, while MRT2 is estimated to cost RM30.53 billion. — TMR
