Media Prima Bhd’s subsidiary Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd (TV3) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with two union groups comprising its employees for a rationalisation exercise that involves sacking its employees.
According to a statement yesterday, TV3 inked the MoA with the company’s Employees Union and TV3 Executive Union representatives.
“The group will ensure that the affected employees will receive fair compensation benefits and outplacement assistance,” Media Prima said.
On Nov 26, Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran said the union groups had submitted a memorandum to the ministry, seeking the government’s assistance to oppose TV3’s plan in embarking on a service termination programme.
It was revealed in the memorandum to the ministry that the free-to-air TV station has given 190 employees a three-month notice for the retrenchment programme, while offering a mutual separation schemes (MSS) to 43 employees.
The union groups had also been informed that some of the internal operations will be outsourced to the third parties starting Jan 1, 2019.
In 2014, Media Prima embarked on an MSS exercise, which had reduced the group’s headcount by about 10%.
