Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has clarified its broadband pilot project is focused only in Jasin, Melaka, and will not be expanded to other areas as reported by The Malaysian Reserve on Monday.

The pilot project in Jasin covers 1,100 houses located in Taman Merbau, Taman Maju and Felda Kemendor. The number of homes covered is sufficient to assess the technical, safety and commercial viability of utilising TNB’s infrastructure to support the government’s National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).

The outcome of this pilot project will enable the power utility giant to assess the viability of embarking on a larger scale NFCP participation, TNB stated yesterday.

It added that infrastructure works to connect TNB’s fibre network to homes under the pilot project in Jasin is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year as planned.

Retailers are expected to enjoy broadband services in the same area in the first quarter of next year.
