TPC Kuala Lumpur scores big again

This time the club achieved the topmost Asia Pacific recognition in the form of 6 most outstanding achievements at the Asian Golf Awards ceremony

Malaysia’s first and only TPC club in South-East Asia, TPC Kuala Lumpur (TPCKL), has done it again!

This time the club achieved the topmost Asia Pacific recognition in the form of six most outstanding achievements at the 2018 Asian Golf Awards ceremony held at the new Hyatt Regency in Bangkok recently.

The Asia Pacific Order of Zenith and Legion of Leaders are two exceptional categories of awards, which saw TPCKL and Steven Thielke, the club’s CEO, as the respective recipients.

The Asia Pacific Order of Zenith is an exclusive and lofty recognition that excels and exceeds any standard in the industry. The Legion of Leaders is a special tribute that singles out outstanding men and women in the golf club management industry for the exemplary role they play in promoting all-round excellence in the club industry.

Thielke, upon receiving the award, said: “It’s a great honour for me and the club to be recognised as among the best in the Asia Pacific. The team at TPCKL is more motivated than ever to excel further.”

In addition, TPCKL’s head of agronomy Mohd Nizam Othman took the Best Golf Course Superintendent of the Year award for the third time, while the Best Human Resources Manager went to Azhan Kadir who bagged the award for the second year in a row, and Loh Chyi Jen was voted Best Marcomm Manager of the Year.

But the icing on the cake was when TPCKL was voted as the Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific.

“The journey to be where we are now has been an amazing one. Malaysia is blessed with a strategic location and has ample resources for golf development. I hope there will be more exciting roads ahead for the club and Malaysia. Thank you so much to all members, staff and management for the support and we will always continue to deliver the best,” added Thielke.

The Asian Golf Awards is the only Pan-Asia Pacific Award programme of its kind for the golf industry. It has established itself as both the “Oscars” for the industry and a very distinguished measure of excellence for the industry.

Owned by Sime Darby Property Bhd, TPCKL has set an impressive track record with its multi-award winning milestones. Since becoming part of the highly acclaimed TPC Network, TPCKL has made it to the Top 100 World’s Greatest Golf Courses, Top 100 Platinum GCCs of the World and Top 100 Golf Courses
in Asia.

Formerly known as KL Golf and Country Club (GCC), TPCKL is a 36-hole tournament-standard course strategically located in Mont Kiara, just 8 km from the heart of KL.

TPCKL captured the world’s attention through staging the PGA TOUR, European Tour and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) all within a year for three consecutive years between 2013 and 2015.

In October 2016, TPCKL made history again by successfully staging the PGA TOUR-sanctioned CIMB Classic and Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia consecutively, both feats unknown before in the history of golf.

TPCKL’s multi-award winning West Course is ranked 78th in the coveted World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and the club has set another international record at position 88 in the Top 100 Platinum GCCs of the World 2018-2019, up one notch since 2015, as well as 19th place in the Top 100 Golf Courses in Asia.
