THE Cabinet has agreed to close the Tabung Harapan Negara (THN) trust fund on Dec 31, nearly seven months of its establishment.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (picture) said the fund will remain a symbol of loyalty and patriotism of Malaysians towards settling the country’s debt.
“This can be reflected in the rejection of a foreign company’s offer to donate over RM100 million for suspicion of certain intention behind the donation,” he said.
As of 3pm yesterday, THN has accumulated RM196.3 million which includes contributions received from individuals and organisations, as well as benefits from fixed-deposit investment administered by the National Audit Department (NAD).
“In this regard, the NAD will audit the trust fund’s account receipts and payment statements to ensure its management is made in a highly integrity and systematic and manner,” he noted in a release yesterday.
The finance minister also extended his appreciation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V for his contribution towards the fund.
Lim added that the government remains committed to be transparent with every sen received.
