No Malaysians reported on board crashed Lion Air aircraft


No Malaysians were reported thus far to be on board the Lion Air aircraft carrying 189 people that crashed in Indonesia today, according to the Foreign Ministry, Wisma Putra.

It said in a statement that the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta had been in touch with the local authorities on the details of the 181 passengers on board the ill-fated aircraft.

Flight JT610 had crashed in the sea north of Jakarta minutes after taking off at 6.20 am (7.20 am in Malaysia) from the Indonesian capital for Pulau Bangka Belitung in Sumatera. It was scheduled to arrive at its destination at 7.10 am (8.10 am in Malaysia).

“The embassy will continue to be in close contact with the local authorities to monitor the latest developments,” Wisma Putra said.
