GEORGE TOWN – A total of 101 people from 28 families were evacuated up to this afternoon in Teluk Kumbar near here and Titi Teras, Balik Pulau due to floods caused by heavy rain overnight.
Penang Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said 89 people from 25 families were moved to the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Teluk Kumbar beginning 11 pm yesterday when floodwaters began to rise up to about one metre.
He said 12 people from three families were accommodated at a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Titi Teras.
“As at 11 am today, the floods have receded and evacuees are expected to be allowed to return home this evening,” he said.
