MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) network of terminals, which includes Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, recorded 10.8 million passenger movements in September 2018, a 2% growth from the number recorded in the previous year’s corresponding period.
MAHB said in a statement yesterday that its international traffic recorded 5.1 million passenger movements with a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 2.1%, while domestic passenger movements increased by 2% to 5.7 million passenger compared to the same period in 2017.
In total, MAHB network of airports registered a 4.9% growth on a 12-month basis with 132.3 million passengers.
“The network had handled the highest traffic over a 12-month period,” MAHB’s statement read.
Overall aircraft movements increased by 3% with international and domestic aircraft movements recording an increase of 2.9% and 3% respectively compared to September 2017.
On the local front, airports in Malaysia registered 7.7 million passenger movements in September 2018, a 1.3% YoY growth against September 2017.
International sector recorded four million passenger movements with a 0.9% increase, while the domestic sector recorded 3.8 million passengers, an increase of 1.6%.
International traffic for Asean destinations grew 2.6% to two million passenger movements, whereas non- Asean passenger movements declined by 0.7% to two million passengers.
Overall aircraft movements had increased by 2.7%. International and domestic aircraft movements increased by 2.3% and 2.9% respectively.
As such, domestic aircraft movements posted the first positive growth since the second half of 2016.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) passenger movements registered 4.6 million passengers in September 2018, a decline of 0.8% from September 2017.
International passenger movements declined by 1.4%, while domestic passenger movements increased by 0.8% compared to September 2017.
However, passenger movements at the 38 Malaysian airports other than KLIA registered an increase of 4.5% YoY over September 2017 with 3.1 million passenger movements.
International passenger movements increased by 15.2% recording 0.7 million passengers, while domestic passenger movements increased by 2% with 2.5 million passengers.
