Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be leading the Malaysian delegation to the Asean Leaders’ Gathering in Bali, Indonesia, today.

Dr Mahathir will be accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The theme of the inaugural Asean Leaders’ Gathering is “Achieving Sustainable Goals and Overcoming Development Gap through Regional and Global Collaborative Actions”.

The gathering would allow leaders from the regional grouping to engage International Monetary Fund MD Christine Lagarde, the World Bank president Jim Yong Kim and the United Nations secretary general António Guterres to boost the cooperation between Asean and these organisations, especially in the issue of sustainable development.

Dr Mahathir is also expected to hold bilateral discussion with his Asean counterparts on the sidelines of the gathering.
