Selangor International Business Summit 2018 in September to focus on F&B

The event aims to attract transactions worth RM250m, which is 23% higher than the RM204m achieved in 2017

THE Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2018 will feature a diverse group of local and international food and beverages (F&B) traders next month.

Selangor state government executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim (picture) said SIBS 2018 — which is set to run from Sept 6 till Sept 16, 2018, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur — will see participants from South-East Asia, Europe and Africa.

The summit will have three main events; the Selangor International Expo 2018 from Sept 6-9; the Selangor- Asean Business Conference 2018 from Sept 6-7; and the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention 2018 from Sept 13-15.

Invest Selangor, the co-organiser of the summit, and Mentri Besar Inc Selangor said this year’s summit will focus mainly on the F&B industry — the sciences, the technology and the services — as well as the halal industry.

The Selangor International Expo 2018 will feature a few other side events such as the 2018 Latte Art Competition from Sept 6-7; the Piala TTAM — Battle of Teh Tarik 2018 on Sept 8; and the Live Gastronomic Experience from Sept 6-9.

“We are happy to see our supporting partners take centre stage and organise these exciting side events during the expo,” Teng said at a press conference in Shah Alam on Tuesday.

The Selangor-Asean Business Conference 2018, meanwhile, will highlight about 60 speakers from across Asean and beyond at the summit.

Among the slated speakers are the chairman of Asean Business Advisory Council Malaysia chapter Tan Sri Dr Mohd Munir Majid, World Bank Group Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice lead economist Richard Record and Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Makio Miyagawa.

SIBS 2018 aims to draw in transactions worth RM250 million, which is 23% higher than the RM204 million achieved in 2017.

Invest Selangor hopes to attract 25,000 visitors and more to this year’s summit, which will be held for the first time at a bigger venue at MITEC.

The event, endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp, has so far garnered the support of 27 partners including Malaysia Airlines Bhd as the official carrier partner.

Dubbed the golden state of Malaysia, Selangor was the key contributor to the national economy in 2016. The state contributed 22.7%, while Kuala Lumpur contributed 15.3%, Sarawak 9.8%, Johor 9.4%, Pulau Pinang 6.7% and Sabah 6.7%.
