THE Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) is looking to regulate a new passenger service charge (PSC) rate at each and every airport terminal in the country accordingly.
Newly appointed Mavcom executive chairman Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi (picture) said despite being fully equalised earlier this year, the PSC would vary according to each of the airports’ service level.
“We are reviewing the PSC based on the funding models of various airports because some are profitable and some are not.
“We need the owner of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to decide on how we would go about determining the new rates,” he said at the signing ceremony between the Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd and Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd in Kuala Lumpur last week.
When asked on the RM1 service charge per passenger, Nungsari confirmed that it will remain in force.
As of Jan 1, 2018, the PSC rates across all airports in Malaysia stand at RM11 for domestic destinations, RM35 for Asean destinations and RM73 for international destinations.
