The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh as Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) chairman with immediate effect.
Ahmad Nizam replaces Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan who stepped down from the national oil firm on June 30 this year.
According to the PMO, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin will remain as the president and group CEO of the firm.
Ahmad Nizam has been working in the oil and gas industry for 37 years and served Petronas in several positions for the majority of his career.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ohio University, and attended the Advanced Management Programme at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in the US.
Since 1981, Ahmad Nizam has held various positions as an analyst, planner and project coordinator in corporate planning and finance sectors at the Petronas Corporate Head Office until 1987.
He was also the MD of Engen Ltd, which is a subsidiary of Petronas in South Africa, from July 2010 until August 2015. According to Bloomberg, Ahmad Nizam has been an independent non-ED at WZ Satu Bhd since April 11, 2016.
