LBS Bina Group Bhd and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) have formed a partnership to initiate “Lepak”, a study and co-working space located at M3 Mall in Gombak, Selangor less than 2km away from TAR UC campus.

Lepak will primarily be catered to the institution’s students and is expected to open its doors in mid-August.

LBS Bina ED Datuk Cynthia Lim said the co-working space was named by the TAR UC students as a result of a naming contest for the centre.

“The operating hours will be from 10am to 10pm but we plan to extend it until 12am. Wireless Internet and free drinks such as tea and coffee will be provided,” she said at the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the project in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Cynthia said the hub is positioned a level above a dodgeball centre, and it is perfect for the students.

“In the beginning we anticipate at least 10% out of the 20,000 students to utilise the hub,” she said.

TAR UC president Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok said at present, students have to scour for locations in and around Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur just to hold their events.

“Among the few events they usually hold is fashion show. With this three-year deal with LBS Bina, we practically have a space free to use for our students so that they can focus on event execution and management,” he said.

The partnership between the companies include cooperation, development and exploration of ideas involving business and academic collaborations, as well as exposing TAR UC students through various educational activities.

LBS Bina MD Tan Sri Lim Hock San (picture) said the signing will kick-start efforts to explore how the two parties can combine resources in future projects.

“The company is honoured to provide a platform for the students of TAR UC to experience a real working environment before they graduate,” he said.

Lim said the collaborations also include internship opportunities, joint-campus events and corporate social responsibility activities.

The two parties have joint forces on various activities, such as the Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement, the Intercampus Robotics Competition, and the “Mighty Health” campaign, which was held at LBS’ newly acquired property in M3 Mall, earlier this year.

LBS also plans to launch the third phase of its Alam Perdana township next week phase one of Cybersouth in September.

The third phase of the 856 two-storey linked houses worth RM509,900 each and 28 semi-detached houses which start from RM850,000, is valued at RM474 million.

The Cybersouth township on the other hand, offers 379 units of two-storey linked houses and 698 units of townhouses, starting from RM530,000 and RM399,900 respectively.
