Bursa Malaysia rose 18.7 point for morning session

Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session higher on continued gains from yesterday, aided by the rise of blue-chip stocks especially in banking and a more positive regional performance.

At 12.30pm, the main index rose 18.7 points or 1.05% to 1,795.83 compared to yesterday’s close of 1,777.13.

The index has been moving between 1,797.32 and 1,778.23 during the morning session after it opened at 1,779.97.

Gainers beat losers 530 to 347, while 363 counters were traded unchanged. Turnover stood at 2.44 billion shares, valued at RM1.595 billion.

Top gainers included Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Sime Darby Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, AMMB Holdings Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Genting Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd and DiGi.Com Bhd.

Maybank jumped 29 sen to RM9.88 with 10.96 million shares traded, while utility giant TNB climbed 28 sen to RM14.64 with 4.32 million shares changing hands.

Among the losers were Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, IOI Corp Bhd, Genting Malaysia Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, Maxis Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, PPB Group Bhd and Nestle (M) Bhd.
