Cybersecurity and anti-virus software provider Kaspersky Lab is investing in research and development in the mobile security market as more people are working on their mobile devices instead of conventional computers.
“With more people working on their mobile devices, we have decided to focus more on mobile security. Mobile device security goes beyond password-protecting a device, backing up data.
“As mobile devices become the primary device for the society, identity theft becomes easier, and online banking and in-app e-commerce transaction become more frequent,” Kaspersky Asia-Pacific corporate communications head Jesmond Chang (picture) told The Malaysian Reserve yesterday.
He added that there are about 325,000 new and unique malware created daily which attack both mobile devices and computers.
“We have seen an alarming trend with almost half of Kaspersky users giving out their private data to strangers online,” he said, adding that it is important to build the awareness to use mobile security solutions.
In light of this, Kaspersky has partnered Tunku Abdul Rahman University College to reach students as this demographic is most likely to use their mobile devices as primary devices to access the Internet, hence the urgent need to protect their digital assets and identity.
The cybersecurity and anti-virus provider is also focusing on the corporate segment.
Chang said the company would be launching its Threat Management and Defence solution which focuses on anti-targeted attack in the corporate space, as well as other security solutions.
“Our focus for the corporate segment is 60%, whereas the remaining 40% is for the consumer market.
“The enterprise space is where business is growing tremendously due to the vast numbers of small and medium enterprises (SMEs); the growth in the corporate is much larger and faster.
“In the Asia-Pacific region, our revenue has grown by 11% year-on-year in 2017,” he said.
In conjunction with Kaspersky’s 20th anniversary, the Malaysian Book of Records has recorded 1,931 downloads during the global security company’s anti-virus download drive, which include Kaspersky Internet Security for Android and Kaspersky Password Managers for iOS devices.
