A Malaysian healthcare outfit and a number of Malaysian private hospitals emerged as shining examples at a recent regional industry award ceremony in Vietnam.
Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) bagged the “Medical Travel Organisation of the Year Award”, while the Sunway Medical Centre won the “Medical Tourism Hospital of the Year in Asia Pacific” at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Healthcare and Medical Tourism Awards. For MHTC, this is its second year winning the award, a recognition of its presence as a coordinating agency to promote Malaysia as a global destination for healthcare.
The award won by MHTC looked at organisations that had maintained consistently high standards in delivering quality care and pushed the boundaries of providing for their customers at every stage and in every interaction, according to a statement from the council.
The event, held at Ho Chi Minh, is a collaboration between medical concierge service provider Global Health and Travel, and New-York-based investment services and solutions provider AB Bernstein.
MHTC chief commercial officer Yazmin Azman, who received the award on behalf of her organisation, said Malaysia has gained traction as a global destination for healthcare.
Other winners from Malaysia were KPJ Healthcare Bhd (Hospital of the Year Malaysia), Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (Best New Hospital of the Year in Asia Pacific), Mahkota Medical Centre Sdn Bhd and TMC Fertility (Fertility Service Provider of the Year in Asia Pacific), and National Heart Institute Sdn Bhd (Cardiology Service Provider of the Year in Asia Pacific).
Set up in 2009, MHTC is an agency under the Ministry of Health that facilitates and promotes Malaysia’s healthcare travel industry. It has been mandated by the government to mobilise several initiatives to propel Malaysia to becoming the leading global destination for healthcare. — TMR
