Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is setting up a new parts production line for its second-generation Myvi in Proton City, Tanjung Malim, Perak, which will be operated by its vendor, IQM Sdn Bhd.

Perodua Auto Corp Sdn Bhd president Takahashi Masanori said due to the peaked capacity at its current manufacturing plant in Rawang, Selangor, the compact carmaker is outsour- cing the production of the B-segment model.

“The Myvi Service Parts Line will produce Myvi’s body components such as hoods, doors, fenders, quarter panels and roofs.

“We are committed to our customers and we will continue to produce high-qualityand affordable parts for Perodua vehicles,” he said in a statement when attending the facility’s official opening last Friday.

Launched in June 16, 2011, Takahashi said between May 2011 and October 2017, there were 519,000 second-generation of the B-segment model produced.

At present, Myvi Service Parts Line solely produces body components based on demand, while the Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd in Rawang continues to produce engine parts for the second- generation Myvi on a one-shot basis. Other parts are produced by various vendors.

He said IQM remains the apparent choice for Perodua as it has been the prominent manufacturer of parts for the Perodua model.

“IQM began manufacturing service parts for Viva in 2014. And although the production of the model has ceased, the parts are still being produced at IQM’s Tanjung Malim facility.

“They have been supplying the metal stamping, body assembly parts and brake tube components,” Takahashi said.

He added that apart from the second-generation Myvi and Viva, local vendors are still producing the original parts for the first-generation Myvi, Kelisa and Kancil.

“IQM has been Perodua’s vendor since 2002 and we have built a strong relationship based on trust, quality and absolute never-ending loyalty to our customers,” said IQM ED Aidil Azlan Mohd Fitri.
