Rafidah resigns as Supermax chairman

Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has resigned as Supermax Corp Bhd independent and non-executive chairman, according to the company announcement to Bursa Malaysia.
 
The world’s second largest glove maker said Rafidah’s resignation was effective on April 14 this year.
 
Rafidah, 74, was Supermax chairman for close to three years after she was appointed in in June, 2015. The former minister is currently the chairman of AirAsia X Bhd, Megasteel Corp and Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studio.
 
It was reported that her resignation was related to the differing views after Supermax’s former MD Datuk Seri Stanley Thai apologise to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak on Saturday.
 
According to news report, Thai said he regretted his role in the 13th General Elections, saying that he was influenced by the propaganda and the opposition during the election period. 
 
He said it was “wrong” for his as a business person to have been involved in politics.
 
The market responded to the event at Supermax sending the 12 sen higher to RM2.72 with 3.51 million shares trading hands at the close of the morning session today.
