Malakoff gets maintenance job for LSS PV power plant in Johor

Malakoff Corp Bhd has secured an operation and maintenance contract for a 29MVac large-scale solar (LSS) photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

In an exchange filing, the firm stated that the contract was signed between its wholly owned subsidiary Teknik Janakuasa Sdn Bhd (TJSB) and ZEC Solar Sdn Bhd, which initially secured the project via competitive tender issued for a period of 21 years starting from December 2018.

“The main scope of the agreement is to perform and provide services in relation to the operation, maintenance and repair of the PV (LSS) solar plant.

“Zec Solar has secured the project via first round of LSS competitive tender issued by the Energy Commission and a consortium comprising TJSB and Zelleco Engineering Sdn Bhd,” the firm said yesterday.

Under the agreement, the TJSB-Zelleco consortium will establish a special-purpose company to carry out the services and obligations for the agreed operations and obliged to meet the standard performance guarantee for the solar PV plant’s operation.

“This agreement marks Malakoff’s first foray into the operation and maintenance of renewable energy (RE) assets and signals the expansion of our business to include both thermal or conventional, and RE power generation,” CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Mohd Kenali said.

At present, TJSB operates and maintains six power plants in Malaysia and three internationally.

On the RE front, Malakoff currently owns a 50% stake in Macarthur Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia, with an effective generation capacity of 210MW.

Earlier this year, the company also signed a memorandum of understanding with Touch Meccanica Sdn Bhd to collaborate in the development of several RE projects, particularly in LSS PV and small hydro-power plants in Pahang.
