Bursa Malaysia main index continued to slide further at midday on regional selling across the board, amid rising fears of a full-blown trade war between the US and China.
At 12.30pm, the key index stood at 1,857.43, down 7.79 points or 0.42% from Friday’s close of 1,865.22.
The main benchmark index opened 4.34 points lower at 1,860.88.
Losers thumped gainers 690 to 152 gainers, with 303 counters unchanged, 750 untraded and 26 others suspended.
Turnover stood at one billion shares valued at RM654.34 million.
Sime Darby Bhd added three sen to RM2.58, while CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose one sen to RM7.22.
Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd lost six sen to RM2.12, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd dropped 12 sen to RM4.83, YTL Corp Bhd slid three sen to RM1.38 and Nestle (M) Bhd fell RM2.50 to RM147.50.
Other laggards included Sime Darby Plantation Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd, AMMB Holdings Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, DiGi.Com Bhd, Axiata Group Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Bhd.
Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.28% to 20,559.61, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) fell 0.71% to 3,397.25 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) slid 0.56% to 30,140.40.
