KLCI ends morning session in negative territory

The Bursa Malaysia main index closed the morning trading session in negative territory as buying sentiment fell amid renewed fears of a US-led trade war after the resignation of a key free trade advocate at the White House.

At 12.29pm, the benchmark index stood at 1,839.01, down 9.36 points from yesterday’s close of 1,848.37.

It saw an intraday high of 1,848.85 and an intraday low of 1,834.66, after opening 1.35 points lower at 1,847.02 this morning.

Top losers included Nestle (M) Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd, PPB Group Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, Petronas Gas Bhd and Sime Darby Bhd.

Top gainers included Hong Leong Bank Bhd, Genting Malaysia Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, Axiata Group Bhd and IHH Healthcare Bhd.

Market breadth was negative with 925 losers against 124 gainers. 251 counters were unchanged, 574 were untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.73 billion shares worth RM1.28 billion.
