Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd and Grab Malaysia have partnered in a year-long collaboration to enhance Grab customers and drivers’ riding experiences.
Under the partnership, Grab will deploy in-car infotainment tablets powered by Digi’s 4G Plus network to 1,000 Grab vehicles in the Klang Valley.
“Customers will be able to stream high-definition (HD) entertainment on these tablets,” Digi head of iTelco How Lih Ren said in Shah Alam today.
Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh said that the partnership provides additional incentive for Grab drivers.
“Drivers who deploy the tablets will get ancillary income of around a couple hundred ringgit per month,” he said.
He added that the tablets are intended to be self-sustaining through revenue garnered from advertisements.
“Also, the hardware, network and content of said tablets are garnered through partnerships. Digi is providing the network, while we have partnerships for local content,” Goh said.
The infotainment tablets are expected to be rolled out in April this year.
With the partnership, Digi customers can redeem a free Grab ride on-app, while Grab customers can redeem RM5 Digi prepaid top-ups using 750 GrabRewards points through the app.
Grab drivers will also be able to subscribe to exclusive Digi postpaid plans designed specifically for them.
