Local bourse retreats on global sell-down

The main Bursa Malaysia index closed the morning session in negative territory as global stocks declined following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of import taxes on steel and aluminium imports.

At 12.30 pm, the key index was 3.56 points lower at 1,857.30 from yesterday’s close of 1,860.86 points.

It registered an intraday high and intraday low of 1,859.54 and 1,854.25 respectively for the morning session, after opening 3.05 points lower at 1,857.81.

The market’s sentiment remained negative as losers outpaced gainers by 634 to 180. 368 counters were unchanged, 677 were untraded and 20 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.50 billion shares worth RM1.03 billion.

Top gainers included Nestlé (M) Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd , IOI Corp Bhd, AMMB Holdings Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd and Malayan Banking Bhd.

Top losers included Hong Leong Bank Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, Genting Bhd, Maxis Bhd, Petronas Gas Bhd, YTL Corp Bhd, Sime Darby Bhd and Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd.
