Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd introduced the Mugen limited edition body kit for its leading compact SUV, the HR-V.

In a statement yesterday, the company said it is the third Honda model to offer the Mugen package after the Civic Concept Mugen 2.0 in 2006 and the Concept M models of the Civic and Jazz in 2010.

“The HR-V Mugen comes with a new body kit consisting of a total of nine items — including a front-under spoiler, rear-spoiler, side-under spoiler, tailgate spoiler, sporty decal, Mugen gearbox emblem, Mugen exterior emblem, front grille and car- pet mat,” the Japanese carmaker said.

Honda said since HR-V was first launched in February 2015, the model has received overwhelming response and total registration was more than 65,000 units as of last month.

“In 2017, the HR-V emerged as the second best-selling model, contributing 17% of overall sales and remained in the lead position in the compact SUV segment,” it said.

The HR-V Mugen is developed with maximum space utilisation with larger legroom for both driver and passenger sides.

“The multi-utility cargo space offers larger trunk space which can be adjusted through versatile rear seat configuration modes known as the Utility Mode, Tall Mode and Long Mode,” Honda said.

The Utility Mode allows the rear seats to be lowered to increase the space in the boot, while the Tall Mode allows space to be freed from floor to ceiling with rear seats folded for tall items to be fitted in.

“Long Mode will enable long items to be carried in the car with both the front and rear seats reclined.

“These modes allow the HR-V users to obtain their desired space for travel usage, providing convenience and practicality for everyone in the family,” it added.

The model was also aerodynamically designed, featuring a 1.8L i-VTEC SOHC engine combined with Honda Earth Dreams Technology CVT and certified as an energy-efficient vehicle.

On the safety side, the model comes with a high level of active and passive occupant protection, certified as a 5-Star Asean New Car Assessment Programme rating with six airbags, Electric Parking Brake, Auto Brake Hold, Vehicle Stability Assist and Hill Start Assist.

The HR-V Mugen is a limited model with only 1,020 units available in the market, priced at RM118,000 without insurance.
