Malaysia’s Danny Chia has earned himself another feather in his cap by being named as one of three new Zurich Insurance Group Ltd golf ambassadors.
He keeps company with Spain’s Sergio Garcia and England’s Tommy Fleetwood. And in announcing their appointments, the insurance giant’s group chief strategy, innovation and business development officer Giovanni Giuliani said: “We are proud to team up with such passionate, exceptional golfers. Our involvement in this sport enables us to
support the passion of many of our customers, brokers and employees, and build an emotional connection between our audiences and our brand.” Chia, whose focus will be specifically on the Malaysian market, said: “It is an honour to represent Zurich as a brand ambassador and to help them spread their message in Malaysia. Zurich is an established and strong organisation, which does much for the game of golf and for the people of Malaysia. I am really looking forward to working with them.”
Chia’s credentials include being the first Malaysian to win on the Asian Tour and also representing Malaysia in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Earlier in 2010, he became the first Malaysian to play in all four rounds at the British Open at St Andrews.
Both Garcia and Fleetwood have a global role to play, given their world standing in the game.
Garcia has won 32 worldwide professional events, including The Masters Tournament in 2017 and The Players Championship in 2008. He’s an eight-time Ryder Cup player.
“I look forward to helping differentiate Zurich among their customers, brokers and the communities they serve,” he said.
Fleetwood turned pro in 2010, after an amateur career that saw him holding the No 1 amateur world ranking for a time. In July 2017, he broke into the Official World Golf Ranking’s Top 20 for the first time. After a successful season featuring two victories, Fleetwood captured the 2017 Race to Dubai title.
“I’m excited to work with a company that has provided exemplary support to this sport for several years,” he said.
The trio join other top-ranked players, namely, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Lexi Thompson, Jamie Donaldson and Billy Horschel as Zurich’s ambassadors.
