HONDA Malaysia Sdn Bhd has strengthened its leading position as top non-national car brand for the third consecutive year, with a record sale of 109,511 units in 2017, an increase from 91,830 sold in 2016.
The 2017 figure also marked Honda Malaysia’s first time to achieve sales of more than 100,000 units, the highest that a non-national brand has ever achieved in the country.
The Japan marque also maintained No 2 position in overall total industry volume for the second year in a row, with all of its completely-knocked down models in its respective segments.
“Honda Malaysia achieved outstanding sales in 2017, and we dedicate this milestone year that we have experienced to all our customers, business partners, dealers and Honda associates,” MD and CEO Toichi Ishiyama (picture) said in a statement yesterday.
Since its establishment in 2003, Honda Malaysia has sold more than 730,000 units of vehicles.
The company has also managed to capture 19% of the market share in 2017, up 3.2 points from 2016.
Last year, Honda Malaysia introduced six new models, namely BR-V, City, Jazz and Jazz Hybrid, City Hybrid, CR-V as well as the All-New Civic Type R.
Of the new models, Honda City emerged as the bestselling model, contributing 27% of the brand’s total sales.
This was followed by the HR-V at 17%, BR-V at 16% and Civic at 14%. The BR-V was also the best-selling model in East Malaysia.
“We are pleased to note that with the maturing Malaysian market, customers responded well to the various Next Generation Advanced Technologies we introduced — such as the Honda SENSING, Turbo and Sport Hybrid i-DCD,” Ishiyama added.
Malaysia made history as the only country outside of Japan to introduce the Sport Hybrid i-DCD technology.
