MMC Corp Bhd has contributed RM120,000 worth of reading materials to selected learning institutions as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

According to the utilities and infrastructure group, 24 schools throughout the peninsula will receive new reading materials in stages, starting from November 2017 until January 2018, an initiative under the MMC Smart Circle Programme.

“The MMC Smart Circle Programme was established with the objectives to empower students with knowledge and encourage good reading habits to increase their intellectual capacity, which will simultaneously prepare them for their major examinations,” the company said in a statement yesterday.

Out of the 24 schools, six schools were selected from the central region, three schools from the northern region and 14 from the southern region.

MMC Corp said the materials were distributed by the group and its subsidiaries that are operating in the three regions.

“The materials were distributed by Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd, Johor Port Bhd, Northport (M) Bhd, Penang Port Sdn Bhd, Kontena Nasional Bhd, Gas Malaysia Bhd, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, Senai Airport City Sdn Bhd and MMC Engineering Services Sdn Bhd to the respective schools in a closed ceremony,” it said.

Apart from the programme, MMC is also organising its annual Back-To-School Programme to provide school supplies to over 200 under-privileged students in the central and southern regions.

“Both MMC Smart Circle Programme and the Back-To-School Programme are part of MMC’s commitment for its CSR programme to enhance the social and economic wellbeing of its communities.

“MMC will continue its community development initiative to build a better future for the communities within its operations and nationwide,” the group said.
