Petronas Gas Bhd (PetGas) received the first commercial liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo recently for its newly commissioned Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP) in Pengerang, Johor.
RGTP, also known as RGT2, is PetGas’ second regasification facility to commence operation after its first facility situated in Sungai Udang, Melaka. The LNG cargo that belongs to Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) was delivered to the RGTP by MISC Bhd’s LNG vessel, Seri Begawan.
PetGas MD and CEO Kamal Bahrin Ahmad said: “The commencement of the commercial operations of RGTP on Nov 1, 2017, marks a very significant growth milestone for PetGas.
“It strengthens our regasification business segment and will provide additional revenue stream to PetGas,” said Kamal Bahrin who is also the chairman of Pengerang LNG (Two) Sdn Bhd.
Prior to this, the RGTP has received three commissioning cargoes on Sept 1, Sept 23 and Oct 17 this year.
The RGTP is built to provide primary gas supply to the refinery and petrochemical plants, as well as Pengerang Cogeneration Plant in the Pengerang Integrated Complex, and to the Peninsular Gas Utilisation system, to augment the availability of gas in the country.
The RGTP delivered the first gas to the PGU pipeline on Sept 15, 2017.
