Lazada’s Nov 11 mega sale a hit

LAZADA Group broke records for its Online Revolution mega sale that was held on Nov 11, with the number of items sold within the first 60 seconds triple the quantity that was recorded last year.

The e-commerce platform said in a statement that nearly eight in 10 people shopped with their mobile devices, which reflects the growing mobile penetration in the region.

Among the most popular items were the Xiaomi Mi A1 mobile phone, L’Oreal skincare products, Huggies diapers, Dumex milk formula and the digital players.

Also sought after by shoppers were items from the Taobao Collection, which were specially selected from the world’s largest online marketplace owned by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. They included watches, men’s and women’s apparel and kitchenware.

Online Revolution is the biggest shopping event in South-East Asia. It started on Dec 12, 2012 (12.12), as an introduction to consumers to the convenience and value of shopping online.

Last year, shoppers ordered two million items in just the first day of the event. This year, the highlights of Online Revolution will be on 11.11 and 12.12.

Lazada said shoppers in six countries can look forward to millions of products from around the world — from branded cosmetics, apparel and fashion accessories, to TVs and other nifty electronics, household essentials and even pet food — at ext raordinary prices.

Nov 11 is also known as Singles’ Day, which Alibaba has made into the world’s biggest fashion and gift-buying extravaganza.

Alibaba itself has collected US$25.3 billion (RM105.94 billion) in gross merchandise volume during the recent Singles’ Day, breaking last year’s record sales by 39%. Its shopping bonanza this year involved more than 140,000 participating merchants, including 60,000 internat ional brands.
