Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Corp Bhd has awarded Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd an additional work contract worth a total RM288.5 million for the Klang Valley MRT Line 2 (MRT2) project.

The project, also known as the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line will see the civil engineering and construction group constructing three elevated stations and other associated works at Serdang Raya (South), Seri Kembangan and Universiti Putra Malaysia stations. Works are expected to commence immediately and will take 48 months to complete, or by September 2021.

“We have successfully completed packages V6 and S6 of MRT1, the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line, and are now undertaking package V202 of MRT2, the SSP line. This additional package awarded to us demonstrates our capability and excellent track record as a railway infrastructure builder,” Datuk Seri Wan Zakariah Wan Muda (picture), group MD of Ahmad Zaki, said in a release yesterday.

He added the experience and skill set from such projects will position the company to bid for other major upcoming railway projects such as East Coast Rail Link, Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail and MRT3.

The new contract brings Ahmad Zaki’s total wins for the year to RM502.5 million and takes its current unbilled orderbook to RM4 billion that will sustain the group over the next three to four years.

Meanwhile, EITA Resources Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, EITA Elevator Malaysia Sdn Bhd, will provide 30 lifts and 77 escalators services to MRT for RM69.8 million. Works are expected to commence from Oct 16 and set to be completed by April 2022.
