TNB mobile app to monitor utility consumption

Malaysians can now check their household power usage, electricity bill and control their usage while being away from home, with Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) new online energy monitoring system on their smartphones.

TNB launched its home energy management system in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water.

This beyond-meter product complements its Home Energy Report (HER) and energy efficiency programme.

The app, which is known as “Making Electric Visible” (MAEVI), is an initiative by TNB Energy Services Sdn Bhd — a wholly owned unit of the national utility giant — that can be downloaded via Google Play or Apple Store.

“MAEVI aims to engage and empower the public to better manage their home energy use through real-time monitoring of electricity consumption, energy cost calculation of electrical appliances and notifications when consumption exceeds the targeted bill,” TNB said in a statement yesterday.

The HER programme, on the other hand, utilises behavioural science and data analytics to achieve its energy efficiency objectives.

These efforts are funded by the Malaysia Electricity Supply Industries Trust Account and TNB respectively.

According to TNB, this is the second phase of the HER programme. The pilot programme was first launched in August 2015 and ended in July last year.

“The pilot programme has benefitted 200,000 households in the Klang Valley, Putrajaya and Melaka, and has received much interest and positive feedback from our clients.

“Notably, the pilot programme has achieved over 13,979MWh of electricity savings, which is equivalent to around 9,900 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide avoidance,” the statement added.
