The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) targets RM44 million in sales at the China International Furniture Expo (Furniture China) this year.
MTC will be leading a delegation of 20 companies in the exhibition to showcase their best-selling products under the council’s Malaysia Pavilion.
CEO Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Nik said this year’s exhibition would focus on more high-end contemporary home furniture and premium manufacturing.
“Our furniture manufacturers fit in this category as Malaysia is well-known for providing quality pro- ducts, and is a dependable supplier with a proven track record for prompt delivery,” he said.
He added that this year, the fair organisers would also focus on connecting designers with top suppliers.
During the 2016 exhibition, the Malaysian exhibitors recorded both confirmed and potential sales of RM40.03 million.
MTC chairman Datuk Gooi Hoe Hin said China, being the second- largest economy in the world, is play- ing an increasingly important role in the global economy.
“The trade and investment relationship between China and Malaysia have demonstrated a healthy growth over the years, and it is a vital relationship to maintain as China is Malaysia’s eighth-largest importer of timber and timber products in 2016,” he added.
This would be the third year running that MTC has organised a group participation. At the same time, MTC has increased its sales target for 2017 based on the sales success of its industry partners in the last two years.
Furniture China is one of the world’s leading business-to-business trade fairs organised by the China National Furniture Association and Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd.
This year, the exhibition will be held from Sept 12-15 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong, Shanghai, China.
