Alkhair, HLIB appoint respective CEOs

ALKHAIR International Islamic Bank Bhd (AKIIB) and Hong Leong Islamic Bank Bhd (HLIB) have appointed CEOs for their respective banks.

AKIIB has appointed Yeow Tiang Hui as its new CEO, while HLIB has confirmed Jasani Abdullah, who has been holding an acting CEO position since December 2016. Yeow’s appointment is effective Aug 1, while Jasani’s was on July 17.

Yeow succeeds Datuk Adissadikin Ali, who left the bank in 2016 to head RHB Islamic Bank Bhd. Prior to joining AKIIB, Yeow had stints with a number of international banks, including managing mutltinational accounts in Deutsche Bank AG and being the VP in venture capital and head of commercial banking of Citibank/Citicorp Malaysia.

He was the Malaysian country head of the French banking group Crédit Industriel et Commercial from 1997 to 2005, where he covered the bank’s offshore wholesale banking business in Malaysia, Greater China and the Philip- pines. He then headed the corporate bank of Kuwait Finance House in Malaysia.

An alumni of the National University of Singapore, where he studied international finance, banking and monetary economics, he obtained further training in banking and finance from Singapore Institute of Ban- king and Finance, Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific and Citibank Asia Pacific Banking Institute.

On his part, Jasani, who has been in the financial industry for more than 30 years, joined HLIB in 2007 as the head of Shariah and product development. He later became its COO and acting CEO.

In a statement, HLIB said Jasani was also instrumental in the merger of EONCAP Islamic Bank Bhd with HLIB in 2011.

Prior to joining HLIB, he was with RHB Banking Group for over 24 years where he was involved in branch operations, regional credit and marketing, Islamic consumer, commercial and corporate banking business. At RHB, he was said to be instrumental in developing its Islamic banking business from a window-based environment to an Islamic subsidiary level.

Jasani graduated with a Diploma in Public Administration from Mara Institute of Technology Malaysia, Bachelor in Business Administration from Ohio University, US, and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
