MMC Corp Bhd’s 70%-owned subsidiary, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), is claiming RM31.86 million from Rising Star Shipping Sdn Bhd (RSS) and The Ship-owners’ Mutual Protection and Indemnity Association (Luxembourg) Singapore Branch (the Club), relating to losses incurred due to an oil spill in PTP’s premises.
MMC said its subsidiary filed in rem and personam writ against RSS and the Club at the Kuala Lumpur High Court for the damages, including a 5% interest rate per annum from July 18 this year up to the date of the full and final payment.
On Feb 17 this year, RSS obtained a declaration from the High Court, which limits its liability to the maximum amount of 4.51 million special drawing rights or approximately RM25 million (the fund).
MMC said PTP’s filing of the writ is to secure its interest and right of towards the fund.
