Malaysian companies ignore technology at own peril

Malaysians companies which choose to ignore or delay embracing technology and its offerings will eventually be phased out, says VMware Inc.

They also stand to lose out on the advantages in productivity that mobility promises. VMware Malaysia country manager Alex Loh cited the “VMware Digital Workspace Study 2017”, which surveyed 2,000 professionals across South-East Asia on their Bring Your Own device (BYOD) habits.

“It revealed startling gaps, vulnerabilities and inefficiencies that need to be plugged as fast as possible.

“It also revealed that 81% of Malaysian employees said they encountered difficulties when using work applications — the highest in the region.

“If not managed appropriately, these issues will continue to blunt the competitive edge of companies and cause a drag on productivity, while adversely impacting business goals,” he told Bernama.

Loh said technology is moving at a breakneck speed now and no industry remains untouched.

“Organisations that are unable to get their infrastructure right could potentially end up giving way to the multitude of newer and more agile innovators who are rushing in on the scene, eager to capitalise on the region’s growth opportunities.

“Providing a simple enterprise secure experience for consumers is a critical step for companies to be future-ready. It also enables a culture of possibilities towards claiming new ground and continue delivering positive business outcomes,” he said.

Loh said the VMware is supporting its local customers’ digital transformation initiatives by helping them modernise their data centres as well as integrate public clouds.

He said the software company supports the advancement of digital transformation with customer-centric technology such as its recently launched “Workspace ONE”.

“This is a new platform for delivering secure digital workspace for flexible work styles and allows for BYOD.

“This is also a first of its kind digital platform that brings together identity, device management and application delivery on a single integrated platform,” Loh added. — Bernama
