Sedania Innovator Bhd (SIB) expects to increase its addressable market to 58 million subscribers with the incorporation of U Mobile Sdn Bhd into the group’s growing list of mobile network operator (MNO) and mobile virtual network operator partnerships.
The figure is a significant increase from SIB’s existing addressable market of 52 million subscribers, primarily the result of its collaboration with Celcom Axiata Bhd, Maxis Bhd and Tune Talk Sdn Bhd in Malaysia as well as Robi Axiata Ltd in Bangladesh.
“The increased addressable market following the partnership will augur well for our financial performance for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2016, onwards,” SIB ED Firoz Mohd Noor told reporters after signing the airtime sharing (ATS) services agreement with U Mobile in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The agreement allows U Mobile to provide SIB with the ATS services via the latter’s proprietary platform for a period of two years, with the renewal option for an additional two years.
Firoz said the tie-up is opportune given the recent launch of the group’s “ShareShare” mobile app that enables seamless peer-topeer ATS transactions, among other services.
“Moreover, we are in collaboration with a brand that has a strong affinity with the younger generation, where 70% of its subscribers are smartphone users,” he said.
U Mobile chief marketing officer Jasmine Lee said the MNO’s customers will soon be able to send and request mobile credits in a fast, safe and convenient way through the tie-up.
“Mobile credit transfer is fast becoming the preferred method for prepaid users to send mobile credits and we are now able to offer such a service with this partnership with SIB,” she said.
She said the prepaid subscribers can start using the service from as early as the second-half of 2016. Among others, it will enable them to transfer and request for mobile credits from other users via short message service as well as the “ShareShare” mobile app available on the iOS Store and Google Play Store.
