The new government line-up for Selangor will be announced within two weeks as the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has not decided on the post of mentri besar.
Caretaker Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the coalition, which retained the state in Sunday’s hotly contested general election (GE), has not decided on whether he will be re-appointed to the post.
“The announcement for the chief minister of Selangor will be made accordingly after the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah gives his consent,” he said in Shah Alam yesterday.
The PR retained Selangor by winning a total of 44 seats — 15 through the DAP, 15 PAS and 14 by PKR.
Abdul Khalid then suggested that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak relinquish his post as Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman for Selangor after failing to wrest the state from PR.
He also asked the Election Commission (EC) chairman to resign for what he alleged as various election discrepancies.
“With their defeat in Selangor state, we demand that Najib Razak resign as BN Selangor chairman because he has proven unsuccessful and was rejected by the people of Selangor.
“We also urge the EC chairman to resign for failing to manage a clean and fair election process,” said Abdul Khalid.
He said it is very disappointing that last week’s GE process was tainted with events such as the failure of the indelible ink, presence of dubious phantom voters, sudden swing of ballot boxes and delay in announcing the results.
Abdul Khalid thanked all Selangor state representatives and members of the state assembly for being voted in to represent the state for the next term.
“PR will continue to excel for the people of Selangor and accepts the responsibility that has been entrusted to us by the people and as promised, we will use all our efforts to ensure our obligations are implemented with integrity and prudence and reject racial politics brought by the Umno and BN especially during the GE13 campaign,” said Abdul Khalid.
“The new mandate will encourage us to intensify our efforts to ensure the welfare of the people of Selangor state so the rich treasures of this state are shared equally among all people and continue our reformation agenda which was initiated back in 2008.”
He said winning the people’s trust in Selangor is proof that PR has fulfilled its promises and were not affected by accusations that it had not administered the state properly.
